Welcome to CO10 the annual live online conference. The conference will be of interest to educators, administrators, students, and community members who value the importance of integrating technology into the
curriculum to improve instruction and learning. Online learning involves various skills on the part of the instructor and learner.
These include social and communication skills, social networking, independent learning strategies, critical and higher order thinking skills, creativity, and effective online and face-to-face facilitation.

The themes for the presentations are:

  1. Connecting Online to Improve Instruction and Learning: Online Learning and Instructional Experience

  3. How do you use technology to promote your online workshops, consultation, and communities?
  4. Research conducted on e-learning
  5. Reviewing or promoting books on e-learning
 First presenter on Friday:

JENNI PARKER

Jenni ParkerJenni is a sessional lecturer at Edith Cowan University (ECU), in Western Australia. Prior to working for ECU Jenni worked in the government sector and was involved in implementing an online learning system (LMS – Moodle) for 2,000 staff across the state and for co-managing a number of projects for developing online resources for schools and the vocational education and training (VET) sector. Before that she ran her own training business and her major contracts were with registered training organisation (RTO’s) providing training services to the corporate sector.

Jenni has a BA in Training and Development and a Graduate Diploma of Creative Industries (Interactive media development). This year she will commence a Master of Education (by Research) and will be doing a design research project on "authentic e-learning".

Title of presentation:
Learning WITH technology : using tools to support online learning in higher education.

Description of presentation:
A reflective look at a novice lecturers foray into creating an engaging learning experience for students in a higher education environment.

From November 5-8, 2009, we will be running the Social Networking 2009 Conference. This open-knowledge event will be completely online and free and it is aimed at encouraging practitioner to reflect on the role of communities of practice as a social network in ELT.

This event is being jointly organized by AVEALMEC and ARCALL, two Latin American associations, one based in Venezuela and the other in Argentina, interested in promoting the use of ICT in the language classroom.

For this event, we invited conference speakers from different parts of the world:

We will be discussing about the concepts and theories around social networks, communities of practice and the Web 2.0, as well as about the use, advantages and drawbacks of social networking tools.
